Uitdaging
AZ Glorieux and AZ Oudenaarde will soon merge to form a single accredited hospital with two campuses. Each campus will have a distinct role. One campus will focus on elective care, such as scheduled surgeries. The other campus will be dedicated to urgent and critical care.
To distribute patients smoothly and correctly across both campuses, an objective and smart planning method is needed. With this project, the hospitals therefore aim to develop a digital tool that automatically determines where patients requiring elective surgery will receive the best care.
The tool takes multiple factors into account, such as the patient’s health risk, the nature of the procedure, and available capacity. This ensures that every patient is automatically placed in the appropriate care setting, with as little manual intervention by healthcare providers as possible.
The goal is to base surgery scheduling on the patient’s care needs, rather than solely on what is organizationally feasible. This ensures a better distribution of patients, higher quality of care, and a more efficient use of personnel and resources. By intelligently analyzing the collected data, the hospitals can also reduce wait times and further optimize their operations.
