Uitdaging
Today, the monitoring of nature management, subsidies and replanting at the Agency for Nature and Forests (ANB) is still largely carried out through physical field visits. This approach is difficult to scale, labour-intensive and does not always lead to uniform assessments.
ANB aims to develop an innovative management monitoring approach by combining standardised drone flights with AI-driven image analysis, enabling indicators such as planting, survival rate and vegetation structure to be monitored more objectively and efficiently.
The project aims to test this innovative approach in a number of pilot areas. The intention is, on the one hand, to validate the results from the pilot areas using ANB’s field expertise and, on the other hand, to evaluate their usefulness within ANB’s operations.
The project envisages that the developed methodology can be transferred to other Flemish government organisations active in nature and landscape management.
