Who is an ICON project intended for?

ICON projects enable research organisations and companies to work together on interdisciplinary research questions that push the international state-of-the-art forward.

How much funding can you receive for an ICON project?

In an ICON project, the research organisations involved may receive up to € 500,000 in support per project year, with 100% of the accepted project costs supported. The companies involved may receive a combined maximum of € 3,000,000 in support, with a subsidy rate between 25% and 60%.

Through which organisation do you submit an ICON project?

You can submit ICON projects through thematic policy initiatives, strategic research centres and spearhead clusters.

Voor strategic research centre ICON programmes, the strategic research centres are the first point of contact. For spearhead cluster ICON programmes (Catalisti, Flux50, VIL, Flanders' FOOD, De Blauwe Cluster, BioVia and ENT.A) the spearhead clusters are the first point of contact. For thematic ICON programmes, the programme managers of the respective programmes are the first point of contact. For overarching questions, VLAIO is the first point of contact.
