General information
The Chips Joint Undertaking (Chips JU) is a public-private partnerschip etween the European Commission, participating European Member States and associated countries, and industry represented by three industry associations: AENEAS, INSIDE and EPoSS.
The Chips Joint Undertaking aims to structurally strengthen the European semiconductor industry and position Europe as a global player in advanced chip technology. By focusing on research, innovation and industrial deployment, Chips JU contributes to the development and application of semiconductor technologies, strengthens Europe’s digital capacity and supports solutions to societal challenges such as sustainability, energy and security. The initiative is part of the broader European ambition to safeguard technological sovereignty and industrial leadership.
Through the Chips JU participation page korganisations can access the different programme components. These include, on the one hand, the ‘Chips for Europe’ programme, which focuses on capacity building through strategic investments in areas such as pilot lines, design platforms and competence centres, and, on the other hand, the ‘ECS Research and Innovation (R&I)’programme, which supports research and innovation across a broad range of key technologies, such as AI hardware, edge computing, cybersecurity, 6G, energy-efficient systems, advanced packaging and photonics.
Consult the Multi-annual Work Programme. or the 2026 calls, the following appendices are particularly relevant:
- Appendix 7: activities within the ECS‑programme (Research & Innovation)
- Appendix 8: activities within the ‘Chips for Europe’-programme (capacity building)
