Uitdaging
OCMW Gent wants to work with care institutions and technological partners to develop an innovative wandering, call and tracking system for people with acquired brain injury (ABI), advanced dementia or similar conditions. The system should enable this vulnerable target group to move around safely and independently, both within care facilities and in their home or outdoor environment.
In this project, we are investigating how smart sensor technology, combined with AI-driven behavioural analysis and proactive risk detection, can lead to an innovative solution. At the same time, there must be respect for the privacy and ease of use of patients and carers. The project focuses on the functional integration of existing components (such as RTLS, GPS, wearables) into a single scalable and ethically responsible system, supported by an end-user-centric approach. The aim of this solution is to increase autonomy for care users, reduce pressure on care staff and enable broader deployment within and outside institutions. Through collaboration with AI experts, healthcare professionals and governments, the project aims to have a broad social impact, including for other Flemish cities.
