Ambient noise in Flanders

Preparation

To define the needs and challenges more clearly, the project was supervised by Addestino. On 14 June 2021, an online market consultation was organised with potential suppliers and service providers. During this market consultation, we focused on companies and research groups with knowledge and experience in sensors (fixed and portable), sensor platforms, noise measurement methods, noise assessment and health aspects (stress, blood pressure).

Below you can find the presentation given during the market consultation as well as the final report, which reflects the results of the preliminary phase: the market consultation presentation and the final report on the preliminary phase can be found under documents. Addestino recommended a phased approach for the development of the toolset with the following use cases:

  1. Dynamically measuring personal noise exposure during the day and linking this to health effects (such as stress, heart rate) and noise appreciation.
  2. Determining personal noise exposure during the night and linking this to health effects, sleep disturbance and noise appreciation.
  3. Mapping environmental noise in Flanders and the appreciation of that environment by rolling out a network of sensors in a citizen science project.
  4. Mapping environmental noise by deploying best-in-class sensors at strategically selected locations to study the long-term evolution of noise sources or relevant areas.

The assignments for the use cases are being prepared and announced in stages.

The innovative public contracts for use case 2 (Night-time noise) and use case " (Monitoring network) have now been delivered.
